I STARTED MY CAREER IN NYC 20+ YEARS AGO with the perfect job opportunity for an aspiring young graduate from the University of Cincinnati with a passion for typography and food: a position with the renowned design studio Louise Fili Ltd. Under Louise’s generous mentoring, I had the opportunity to work on award-winning projects that fueled my diverse interests.
From there I worked with several accomplished creative directors on everything from logos and packaging to editorial and web design, with an emphasis on photo art direction. With this knowledge and experience, In 1999 I decided to open my own design studio; Tonya Hudson Clinton. The studio worked with brands such as Estée Lauder, Entertainment Weekly and Landor Associates to provide brand strategies and positioning, editorial, book and web design as well as custom handmade books and cards that were featured in New York Magazine.
In 2005, my studio was commissioned to do concept work for Victoria’s Secret Direct, which led to a full-time Creative Director position with the brand. I reprised that role with dressbarn, for a total of 11+ years in the fashion industry. In these roles, I led and mentored the creative team (print and ecommerce, photography, copy, style and video) through rebranding and a rapidly evolving industry that I was happy to contribute to and grow in.
I recently got the itch to get back to studio life...my studio doors are open again! When I’m not at my virtual desk, you can find me out exploring for little treasures of uniqueness and inspiration in NYC, the Catskills or the Dominican Republic, with my husband Jeff and our wild, ninja son Jackson. No matter where you may find me...my doors are always open and ready to start something new.
